From Connor’s Run to the Melbourne Marathon
It’s been another fantastic year at Connor’s Run, an event that has held a special place in the Physiosports community for many years. As proud sponsors, we love supporting the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation and its work raising awareness and funds for paediatric brain cancer.
Several staff from the Physiosports and Pursue Health teams joined the runners on the course before swapping their running shoes for the massage table. Our team provided post-run massage treatment to help fellow participants wind down after a big effort. It was great to be involved both out on the course and at the finish line supporting the wider running community.
With another amazing Connor’s Run now behind us, the next big event on the calendar approaches: the Melbourne Marathon!
Whether you’re preparing for your first 5km, chasing a half-marathon personal best or tackling the full 42.2km, the weeks leading into race day are an important time to look after your body. Increasing mileage and training intensity can bring on the occasional niggle, and it can be tempting to push through discomfort in the hope that it settles on its own.
Our physiotherapists regularly assess and manage running-related injuries, and we can help identify the factors contributing to your symptoms, guide training modifications where needed, and develop a plan to help you keep moving towards your goals.
You don’t necessarily need to stop running altogether when an injury develops but understanding what’s causing your symptoms and how to manage your training can make a real difference. Getting on top of a niggle early may help prevent it from becoming a bigger issue as race day approaches.
To everyone preparing for the Melbourne Marathon Festival, best of luck with the final stages of training! And if a niggle is holding you back, or you’re unsure how to manage an injury while continuing to train, the team at Physiosports and Pursue Health is here to help. We’re also here for you after the finish line, whether you need help managing post-race aches and pains, planning your recovery, or building a strategy to get you ready for your next running goal.
Happy running, Melbourne!
