WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE THERAPY (SWT)?
Shockwave Therapy, or Radial Shockwave Therapy is a safe, non-invasive therapy that makes use of high pressured acoustic (sound) shockwaves. The waves move through the skin to break down deeper targeted tissue and stimulate tissue repair, in turn activating our natural healing mechanisms.

WHICH CONDITIONS DOES IT HELP?
At The Physiosports Group, we would recommend shockwave therapy as a complimentary treatment when managing difficult and long-term tendon problems. If usual management options have not been successful, a trial of Shockwave Therapy may be the intervention to help you. The best results have been seen managing heel pain in the form of plantar fasciitis and achilles tendinopathy, as well as tennis elbow.
HOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS RIGHT FOR ME?
If you have a long-standing problem with plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy or tennis elbow which is not improving, and you would like to know whether SWT would work for you, see one of our SWT experts: Scott and John for the lower limb, and Steve for the difficult tennis elbow. They will do a thorough assessment and, if indicated, they will trial SWT to assess its potential benefit in helping you with your difficult problem.
THE TREATMENT
Shockwave Therapy treatment involves the application of a contact gel to the area and a handheld probe to your skin. The probe delivers controlled acoustic waves for approximately 5-10 minutes for each injured area.
A shockwave therapy course of treatment typically requires weekly treatments for between 3 and 6 weeks.
